Here are some fun activities to attend in Chicago’s North Shore during March. Yes it is cold out but there is so much culture and so much to do. These are just a few suggestions to help you plan a fun time but there is so much more to add. If you have more suggestions, let me know.

The Magical Exploding Boy and the Invisible Circus which is going on now through March 23 at the Actors Gymnasium which is located at 927 Noyes Street, Evanston IL 60201. Celebrated Chicago clown, Dean Evans, returns to The Actors Gymnasium to headline this wild, circus adventure into the imagination. A simple creature who longs to be someone else, the Magical Exploding Boy learns that he cannot escape his unique destiny. March “Entertainment” Madness At the North Shore for the Performing Arts which always offers wonderful musical and artistic events and has so much to offer. It’s is located at 9501 Skokie Blvd in Skokie IL. You’re sure to be entertained with this month’s line-up at the North Shore Center for the Performing Arts. If you’re a Rick Springfield fan, you won’t want to miss getting up close and personal with the man and his music on Thursday, March 6 as he plays his most memorable hits and shares some wonderful stories. On Saturday, March 15, it’s Celtic Fire with famed Irish tenor Michael Londra who has created a blazing hot show featuring live traditional music, dance and song that beautifully sweep audiences off to Ireland. And, on Friday, March 28, it’s one of country music’s biggest and brightest stars, singer-songwriter Clint Black! For more information and tickets.
There is the 5th Annual Wine and Beer Tasting Party Friday March 7 at the Winnetka Community House 620 Lincoln in Winnetka IL 60093. Grapes or hops? Stemware or stein? Whether you prefer to imbibe red, white or amber you’ll find it at the Winnetka Community House’s 5th Annual Wine and Beer Tasting and Sale. Sample over 50 superb wines from around the world, alongside microbrew and premium beers, while indulging in delicious pairings of savory hors d’oeuvres, cheese and sweets. For those who wish to buy beer and wine for home, exceptional savings will be offered by the evening’s co-sponsoring vendor, The International House of Wine and Cheese. The event begins at 7 pm. Chapati staring John Mahoney Friday, March 7 through Sunday April 13 at the North light Theatre of the North Shore Center for the Performing Arts in Skokie IL. In this world premiere, romance is a distant memory for two lonely animal-lovers living in Dublin. When forlorn Dan (John Mahoney) and his dog Chapatti cross paths with amiable Betty (Penny Slusher) and her nineteen cats, an unexpected spark begins a warm and gentle story about two people re-discovering the importance of human companionship. After its run at Chicago’s North light Theater, Chapatti will be heading to Ireland’s Galway Arts Festival this summer.
Two Events Celebrate Frances Willard on Saturday March 8th and Sunday March 16. The Evanston Women’s History Project, which is located in the Evanston History Center, invites the public to celebrate the 175th anniversary of Frances Willard’s birth with two very special events. On Saturday, March 8, it’s a “Day of Service” in honor of Frances Willard. The theme is Do Something! Do Everything.

Just Ad Water Wednesday March 12 at 27 Live 1012 Church Evanston IL 60201. Just Add Water, Yale University’s premier IMPROV troupe will perform one public show in the Chicago land area at 27 Live at 8 pm. For ages 15 and up, the troupe tours only twice a year and has yielded many well- known performers including Allison Williams, currently seen as Marnie on the HBO series, Girls. Evanston Township High School’s IMPROV troupe, The Royal We, will be the opening act. 27 Live is downtown Evanston’s new neighborhood restaurant and entertainment venue.
Evanston Dance Ensemble, The Big Night. Friday March 14 through Sunday March 16. Josephine Louis Theater – Northwestern Campus 20 Art Circle Drive, Evanston IL 60201. The universal teen ritual of social dance events and the timelessness of dance as a social medium are the overarching themes of the Evanston Dance Ensemble’s (EDE) production called The Big Night. Presented in two acts, Graduation Ball and Prom 2014, The Big Night marks the first time EDE has created an evening of dance pairing a stylized classical ballet with a second act of individual contemporary concert pieces. EDE will present five performances of The Big Night (Friday, March 14 at 7 pm; and Saturday and Sunday, March15 and 16 at 1 and 4 pm).
Winnetka Historical Society Annual Luncheon on Wednesday March 19 at the Winnetka Community House 620 Lincoln Ave, Winnetka IL 60093. The public is invited to celebrate The Winnetka Historical Society during their annual luncheon from noon to 2 pm. This year, the luncheon will feature a program by the Amazing Women History Theatre with a Q & A afterwards. The performance (called Planes, Trains and Traveling Dames) portrays women who have broken barriers in the area of travel and transportation including Nellie Bly, Amelia Earhart and Anita Willets-Burnham, and ties into WHS’s upcoming 2014 rotating museum exhibit, The Adventurers: Winnetka’s Untold Tales of Travel, 1899-1929.
